Small Group Soccer Training on Oahu

Small group soccer training puts 2–4 players with Coach Joe at the same time. It sits between a private lesson and team practice: everyone stays on the ball, there's always a teammate to pass to and a defender to beat, and families split the cost of the session.

Bring your own group of siblings, teammates or friends. Sessions happen at a local field or in a family's backyard.

What a session looks like

  1. Check-in and warm-up. A quick hello with each player, then a ball-mastery warm-up where everyone works with their own ball.

  2. Partner technique. Passing, receiving and first-touch work in pairs, so every player gets touch after touch instead of waiting in line.

  3. Small-sided challenges. 1v1, 2v1 and 2v2 games that make players use the day's skill under real pressure.

  4. Friendly competition. A short scored game or skills contest to finish the main block. A little rivalry between friends makes everyone work harder.

  5. Wrap-up. A quick recap for players and parents, plus one thing each player can practice at home.

Ages and levels

Ages: [TODO: youngest and oldest ages Joe coaches, e.g. 6–18]

Small groups work best when players are at a similar level, so every drill challenges everyone without leaving anyone behind. Siblings of different ages can still train together when drills are adjusted so the older player is pushed and the younger one isn't overwhelmed.

Beginners, recreational players and club players can all train in small groups. If your group has a wide spread of ages or experience, mention it when you book.

Who it's for

Small group training is a good fit for teammates who want extra work together outside of practice, siblings who would rather train side by side, and friends who want to share the cost of coaching. It also suits players who bring more energy when there's someone to compete against.

If your player needs focused work on one specific skill, private soccer lessons may be the better place to start. You can also mix the two.

What to bring

  • Cleats, or turf shoes for artificial turf
  • Shin guards for the 1v1 and small-sided games
  • A full water bottle for each player, because it gets hot even in the late afternoon
  • A ball for each player, sized for their age: size 3 for U8 and younger, size 4 for U9–U12, size 5 for U13 and up
  • Sunscreen and a hat for daytime sessions

Small Group Soccer Training FAQ

How many players are in a small group?

Two to four. That keeps every player busy while leaving enough players for passing patterns and small-sided games.

How much does small group training cost?

Families split the cost of each session. Current rate: [TODO: small group price per player, per session] See pricing for every program.

How long is a small group session?

[TODO: session length, e.g. 60 minutes]

My player doesn't have a group. Can you place them in one?

[TODO: whether Joe matches single players into existing small groups] In the meantime, private soccer lessons are an easy way to get started.

Can siblings of different ages train together?

Yes. Share each player's age and experience when you book so the session can be planned for both of them.
